Description
Shakshuka is a flavorful dish of poached eggs in a spiced tomato and pepper sauce. It’s easy to make and perfect for breakfast or brunch.
Ingredients

- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp chili flakes (optional)
- 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 large eggs
- Fresh parsley or cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add onion and bell pepper. Cook until softened (about 5 minutes).
- Stir in garlic, cumin, paprika, and chili flakes. Cook for 1 minute.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Make small wells in the sauce and crack an egg into each.
- Cover and cook until eggs are set (5–7 minutes).
- Garnish with fresh herbs and serve hot.
Notes
- Adjust chili flakes for desired spiciness.
- Use fresh, ripe tomatoes for a brighter flavor.
- Serve with crusty bread or pita.
