Description

Shakshuka is a flavorful dish of poached eggs in a spiced tomato and pepper sauce. It’s easy to make and perfect for breakfast or brunch.


Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp chili flakes (optional)
  • 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 large eggs
  • Fresh parsley or cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add onion and bell pepper. Cook until softened (about 5 minutes).
  3. Stir in garlic, cumin, paprika, and chili flakes. Cook for 1 minute.
  4. Pour in crushed tomatoes. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Make small wells in the sauce and crack an egg into each.
  6. Cover and cook until eggs are set (5–7 minutes).
  7. Garnish with fresh herbs and serve hot.
