Ingredients

- 1 cup lentils
- 1 cup rice
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 cups water
Instructions
- Rinse the lentils and rice under cold water.
- Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large pot and add the sliced onions. Cook until golden brown and caramelized.
- Remove half of the caramelized onions and set aside for garnish.
- Add the lentils, rice, cumin, salt, and pepper to the pot with the remaining onions. Stir to combine.
- Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 20-25 minutes until the lentils and rice are tender.
- Serve the Mujadara topped with the reserved caramelized onions.
Notes
- Use brown lentils for the best texture.
- Adjust the seasoning to your taste.
- Serve with yogurt or a fresh salad for added flavor.
